Prestigious National Humanitarian Award Goes to LP XI Graduate |

Congratulations to Dr. Helen C. Sobehart, LP XI, the 2008 recipient of the national Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award! This award, sponsored by the American Association of School Superintendents (AASA), is highly competitive and recognizes educators who best champion diversity in educational leadership as Dr. Effie H. Jones exemplified. Our graduates consistently make us proud as they excel at the local, regional and national levels. Again, congratulations to Dr. Sobehart and Duquesne University for this wonderful achievement! |

LPInc. Past Event Highlights |

On December 6th, 2007, the 57 members of LP XXIV participated in their Public Education Day! This session provided class members with opportunities to broaden their understanding of the complexity and interconnection of issues surrounding public education and charter schools. Class members engaged with educational leaders, including Mark Roosevelt, Superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools. |

On December 13th, 2007, class members of LDI XV learned the “Essentials of Leadership” at host location, DDI. The session was facilitated by Tacy Byham, PhD., LP XXI. The LDI class members continue to bond with each other as they participate in the learning activities involved in each session. |

City Council Chambers provided an inspired location for this LDI session. |
On January 17th, 2008, the LDI XV class convened in the City Council Chambers for a special session on Navigating the Political Landscape. Councilman Bill Peduto presented an interesting introduction to the region’s transportation issues. Session chairs Doug Saltzman and Mary Jo Morandini, LP XVII facilitated some lively discussion. The City Council Chambers always provides an inspired location for the LPInc. program sessions. |

LPInc. is excited to partner with Strong Women, Strong Girls (www.swsg.com)! This partnership offers female LDI graduates a wonderful opportunity to mentor local female college students, who in turn will mentor young girls in grades 3-5. The program launched on February 5th, 2008 at the Children’s Museum. The strong women speakers included: Jane Werner-Executive Director of the Children’s Museum, Joyce Rothermel-CEO of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and LP X graduate, Georgia Berner-President, and CEO of Berner International Corporation and Valerie McDonald Roberts-Allegheny County Recorder of Deeds. |
