![]() Dee Delaney, LP XXII, received the Gertrude Labowitz Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 UCP Community Heroes Awards Dinner in October. Delaney is Executive Director of the FISA Foundation. Dee was recognized for her ongoing advocacy to expand access to health care and dental care for people with disabilities, increase the number of people with disabilities serving on nonprofit boards, promote website accessibility, raise awareness about disability issues, and promote a culture of inclusion. LDI XVI is embarking on an innovative and
ambitious Community Impact Project called POP UP PITTSBURGH! "POP UP,"
as we call it, will be a one day progressive block party in Uptown
occurring this spring and highlighting "Uptown on the Move." The POP UP
concept was developed in Cleveland at the Urban Design Collaborative
and has been implemented through the hard work of a small cohort of
active volunteers. In true LPInc. fashion, we have challenged the 43
members of LDI XVI to organize themselves and design, from the bottom
up, their POP UP event. Keep an eye out for updates on POP UP PITTSURGH and
how you as a graduate may get involved!
LP XXV Government and Public Policy Session a Big Success

On Thursday, October 16th, 2008, the 60
members of Leadership Pittsburgh XXV participated in their Government
and Public Policy Session, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The
session deepened members' understanding of governmental structures and
significant public policy debates/decisions in our region; provided
them with the ability to identify and examine the challenges and
opportunities facing government, government officials and public
policy; and increased understanding of their own ability to affect the
public policy process. The class had opportunities to interact and
dialogue with Jim Roddey, Chair of the Allegheny County Republican
Party; Jim Burns, Chair of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee;
Stephen Bland, CEO of the Port Authority; and Allegheny County Chief
Executive Dan Onorato among others.
Champions Connections Festival of Lights
![]() On October 21st, Marguerite Marks, Director, Pittsburgh 250 Festival of Lights and David Seals, Program Manager, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council spoke to friends of LPInc. in the RegionalEnterprise Lobby about the impact of the Arts on our community and the innovation behind the Festival of Lights in Pittsburgh.
