The Grable Foundation's Community Cabinet
The Grable Foundation and its Community Cabinet (www.grable.org/cabinet.html) have launched an effort to "stir the pot" and inspire creative thinking about the Pittsburgh region and the kids who live here. The Grable Table, an online forum housed on the foundation's website, launched recently and we'd like to include your input to a single question: Place yourself in some future day and imagine that you are now living in a major foreign capital. One morning, while sipping your coffee, you pick up the newspaper and see the following headline: "Pittsburgh, a mid-sized city in the eastern United States, ranks first in the world as child-friendly." Intrigued, you go online, search Pittsburgh-based newspapers, and read an op-ed that describes the Pittsburgh region's remarkable journey. According to the piece, what's so child-friendly about Pittsburgh, and how did they do it? Instructions for submission: Email your response to Jennifer Morris by March 15, 2009. They will post responses to their website one by one, approximately once per week. Please keep your response brief; we're aiming for no more than 200 words. Please consider co-authoring/co-signing your response with others in your organization or field: e.g., a teacher or front- line youth worker at your organization, a peer or counterpart in another corner of our region, etc. Please feel free to contact cabinet@grable.org with any questions
