Welcome to TEDx LeadershipPittsburgh! You are about to embark on a very unique experience created specifically to foster the spreading of ideas.
Think about ideas for a minute. They cost nothing, they weigh nothing and they can be created out of nothing other than inspired imagination. But, if shared and nurtured, they have the power to change the world.
Ideas are also blind to age, race, gender or position. They can originate anywhere and be nurtured by anyone. That’s why you’ll see a diverse collection of people at this conference.
We represent both genders, multiple ethnicities, all stages of our careers in a multitude of professions and range in age from 19 to 73. But beneath these superficial distinctions, we are unified in our curiosity, open-mindedness and desire and ability to conceive and work together to create a better future for our children.
Diversity is only one of the things you’ll notice that’s different about this conference — no keynotes, no titles, presentations honed to their essence, expanded opportunities to talk, a constant and sometimes mentally exhausting flow of eclectic ideas. In fact, everything about this event has been designed to put ideas in the forefront, challenge traditional thinking and encourage you to explore new possibilities and collaborations.
So, I encourage you to talk with strangers — there are probably a few kindred spirits here whom you just haven’t met yet. I guarantee you two things about the next day and a half —you will not be bored and your mind will be exhausted —but in a good way. So, whether you’re familiar with TED and looking forward to some exciting intellectual stimulation or know nothing about TED and are not really sure what you’ve gotten yourself into, just keep an open mind. We want you to be a passionate sponge…and have fun.
